Social Work & Sociology
Many factors have made sociology and social work hot topics in Hong Kong, from an increase in antisocial behaviours, high-stress educational system, domestic violence, marital strife, political turmoil and elderly welfare. The School continuously seeks innovative programmes to address these concerns, including hospital play, career guidance, negotiation training, conflict management, social service management, adventure-based leadership, public administration and similar targeted programmes.
Social work is a people-oriented profession that seeks to affect positive change in the quality of life of vulnerable individuals, and to relieve social problems. The profession is closely involved with the work of other disciplines, such as education, medicine and criminal justice; therefore, this programme is highly recommended to practitioners in the fields of human welfare, education, health care and criminal justice.
Sociology let us explore how a harmonious and fair society can be built, also equipping students with social research techniques which can also be applied in both social work field and sociology field for the active improvement of society, through policy analysis and research.
